Pa. Senate Vote On Kane Removal Expected Today

HARRISBURG, Pa., (CBS) -- The state Senate is scheduled to take a historic vote today on whether to remove embattled Attorney General Kathleen Kane from office.

A two-thirds vote of the Senate would be required to remove Kathleen Kane as attorney general, and even though Republicans hold a huge majority in the chamber, several Democratic votes would be required. Tuesday morning, Allegheny County Democrat Jay Costa, the Senate minority leader, was asked if any of his members had already signaled they were a "yes" or a "no" vote.

"I think our members have indicated in both areas, potentially… but I think the conversation continues along those lines. I think that our members are looking at the evidence, as I said," said Costa.

Costa said, however, that Senate Democratic lawyers have told him that Governor Wolf would be compelled to remove Kane from office if the Senate puts up the necessary two-thirds vote to do so. When asked to comment about that, Wolf's spokesman Tuesday would only say that the governor will review the Senate's decision.
