On Valentine's Day Forget Oysters, Eat Peppers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - While there's a minimal amount of the active chemicals in so-called aphrodisiac foods, Eric Matzke (pictured) with City Food Tours says, there's still a benefit to eating things like oysters, pomegranates and eggs.

Matzke says, "You start eating better, you feel healthier, you have more energy, you drop a few pounds, you feel sexy, you feel good about yourself, you go out wearing a little bit less and turn into a little bit of an exhibitionist."

Matzke says when the Romans and Greeks first discovered the aphrodisiac qualities of some of these foods, their diets were terrible.

"If your body goes into survival mode, one of the first things to stop is libido."

But Matzke says some foods really do get you in the mood.

"Add a little bit of spice to what you're cooking with peppers. It's been proven you get a little bit warm, you start sweating, and then we have these pheromones that we put out there and it's totally subliminal but we can really pick up on the attraction just by those pheromones that are delivered through sweat."
