No Money - No Worries!

By PhillyHealthWatch Editor Sergio Bucciarelli

Weather it is a fitness regimen or nutritious eating plan, healthy living does not nor should it ever cost a lot of money. You don't need a fridge full of food or a membership to some expensive fitness center/ gym to achieve a state of well-being. It's about getting back to basics. Our society has evolved to make things so comfortable for human kind that we think we have to spend lots of money to live the good (healthy) life. The basic nutrients combined with a basic understanding of fitness and wellness, and you're on your way to being a better version of yourself in no time.

Here are some things to consider!

1. Running- its free! Forget all the clothes and gadgets that make it more pain free and comfortable. Just walk out your door and run or walk a few miles. WITHOUT the $100 ipod or $50 running shorts from Under Amour.

2. Eat more fruits and veggies- I know the price of food is going up but consider this: most of us think that food should fit into some kind of pyramid (fruits, dairy, veg, meats, starches, etc.), but what do think costs more that piece of Parmesan or cut of beef at your supermarket, or a bag of Fruits and veggies from the local produce store? And, don't worry about balancing your "diet" a belly full of stuff that came out of the ground is usually better for you than something that was manipulated somehow by another person.

3. Drink more water- FROM YOUR TAP. IT'S FREE! Invest in one of the millions of fluid containers out there on the market, fill it in the morning, and drink it during the day. STOP BUYING ANYTHING TO DRINK. Save your money and your health.

4. Inform yourself- most of us have the Internet, so it costs us nothing except our monthly Internet bill to educate ourselves on what to eat, where to shop, how to treat, and what exercises to do, to maximize our health and wellness efforts. There are some fantastic web sites and online forums like www.PhillyHealthWatch.com that can help get you there. PhillyHealthWatch's November issue is all about how you can live a healthy lifestyle with little to no money!

5. Calisthenics/bodyweight exercises- look these exercises up on-line, learn them, do them daily, and get into phenomenal shape! For free! Checkout what the PhillyHealthWatch Strength Contributor writes www.phillyhealthwatch.com/category/fitness-2/strength/ – his workouts are awesome!

6. Stress- The less money we have, the more stressed we get. Stress is horrible for our health. It contributes to so many deadly diseases. Follow rules 1-5 and help beat stress!
