Nike Drops Manny Pacquiao After 'Abhorrent' Comments Against Gays
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nike is no longer a sponsor of Manny Pacquiao after the boxer's derogatory comments against gay couples.
"We find Manny Pacquiao's comments abhorrent," the company said in a statement. "Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community."
Earlier this week, Pacquiao made regrettable comments on a Filipino television station.
"Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations? If you have male-to-male or female-to-female [relationships], then people are worse than animals."
Pacquiao, 37, did not immediately apologize, writing on his Facebook page that he is, "just telling the truth of what the Bible says." Later, however, Pacquiao released this apologetic Instagram video.
Pacquiao is expected to fight one more time, against Timothy Bradley on April 9th.
