New Tourism Website Puts Focus On Philadelphia's Neighborhoods
By Michelle Durham
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation is rolling out a brand new interactive website that highlights the City's neighborhoods in a unique way. It includes more than just listings of neighborhood eateries. It features videos from residents of those neighborhoods that detail their favorite places to visit.
Funded through a grant through the William Penn Foundation, GPTMC President Meryl Levitz hopes it will encourage visitors to Philly and natives too to venture "one more block" to visit a neighborhood not on their itinerary.
"Sometimes people just need an invitation. These 14 neighborhoods that ring Center City are ready for visitors, have a sense of community and want to share it."
Each neighborhood has their own individual crest and features Instagram photos taken by people who have visited or lived there, James Zale is Vice President of Internet Strategy for GPTMC.
"We tried to create a website that would tell the story of the neighborhoods online so it includes videos, photos and consumer generated content from Intstagram and Foursquare."
Mike Harris Executive Director of South Street and Head House District is thrilled to be a part of it.
"So much word of mouth gets out there about what's going on and we're thrilled by that!"
