New Tactic To Productive Convo Around The Thanksgiving Dinner Table

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A group of Philadelphia interfaith leaders are trying to bring a new recipe to the Thanksgiving table: civil conversation. They spent the week sharing the secret ingredients for getting along at the big meal.
Leaders of the group NewCORE brought their message, along with a meal, to set the stage to students at Philadelphia Mennonite High School.
"There's certain ways to have conversations where they're going to be more productive," Rev. David Brown says.
Brown says the students are just hitting the age where they're joining in grown-up discussions, presenting an opportunity.
"Let's start a new tradition by equipping these young people with a way to have healthy conversations and engage their families in a leadership position to help to have healthier dialogue about a range of different things," Brown says.
The group even printed up recipe cards with tips. The key among them -- listening.
As they passed the potatoes, students gave it a try and they liked it.
"Us, as young people, are able to sit down and have an educated conversation and make a difference," this student said.
