Montco Commissioners Want Refund of Revolution Center Money

The Montgomery County commissioners are waiting to hear from officials with the American Revolution Center before deciding whether they will fight to get some money back.

KYW's Brad Segall reports that Montgomery County poured $2.5 million into the pot to help jumpstart the project, when it was supposed to be built next to Valley Forge Park.

But now that the museum will be located at Second and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia (see photo), the county says it wants its money back.

Commissioner Bruce Castor wants to know what the county can do to recover the money:

"The whole idea of advancing the money was that Montgomery County citizens would have the first crack at the museum within our borders so that our people could see it and we would get some bang for our buck."

Community opposition to the site led ARC officials to begin looking elsewhere, and they finally pulled out of Montgomery County.  They recently completed a land swap deal with the government that included a more than $3-million payout to the museum, which is what attracted the attention of the county.
