PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Getting ready to hit the road for the holidays? So are a lot of other people around here.
AAA Mid Atlantic suggests over one million Philadelphia area residents will hop in the car and travel over 50 miles to see someone over the Christmas holidays. That's part of the over 94-million Americans doing the same thing, starting Saturday.
"The main reason is the calendar," Spokeswoman Jenny Robinson said. "We call it the calendar effect because the year-end travel period this year is a day longer."
Christmas is on a Wednesday this year and Robinson says that means more people actually plan a trip rather than just go for it at the last-minute. Gas prices in the region are a little higher than the national average, although Robinson expects that to change in the short-term.
