More Than A Dozen Fires In Camden Could Be Linked
By KYW's David Madden
(CAMDEN, NJ) Authorities in Camden are looking into a total of 14 fires in the same part of town over the last three days. The rash of fires started with 4 on Saturday, 9 Sunday and one on the Fourth of July. Captain Greg Carlin with the Camden County police Metro division says only one of the buildings had been occupied.
"These had happened very quickly in a relatively small spatial environment with the same M.O. being typically entering the proximity of these vacant dwellings from the rear," Carlin told KYW Newsradio.
One civilian was treated for smoke inhalation, and a few fire fighters suffered minor injuries. All the fires occurred within a one mile radius in South Camden.
"On day one, which would be Saturday, we had those four fire events in under 5 hours," Carlin said, "and on Sunday we had 9 fire events in a 7 hour period."
Some, but not all of the fires have been ruled arsons by the fire marshal. What they need are leads on who might be behind some or all of them. If you can help, call detectives at 856-757-7042.
