Mold Delays Classes For South Jersey Schools

SOMERS POINT, N.J. (CBS) - Schools in the Somers Point School District will not be opening next week as a result of moldy surfaces discovered in each of the buildings, officials announced Thursday.

The first day of classes for New York Avenue, Dawes Avenue and Jordan Road schools was supposed to be September 5th. However, last Friday, custodians were cleaning the primary media center in the Jordan Road School when they noticed mold on several surfaces.

Crews started dehumidifying and cleaning the building, but on Tuesday, they discovered more mold in adjacent rooms.

School officials say they are still waiting for the results from the initial testing, but evidence of mold has since been found in each of the buildings. Officials have not yet said when classes will start.

The delayed start will be added to the end of the school year.
