MAGNOLIA, N.J. (CBS) – A crash on the White Horse Pike in Magnolia, Camden County, left one New Jersey American Water worker dead and three others injured on Wednesday, police said.

The White Horse Pike was shut down in both directions after the fatal crash, which happened just before 10 a.m., according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. A Produce Junction and Columbo Liquors store are nearby.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said a woman hit a curb, a bush and the four New Jersey American Water workers as she drove through the work zone on the 500 block of the White Horse Pike. The northbound lane of the White Horse Pike was shut down for road work as crews were installing a meter pit near the Warwick Road intersection.

One of the workers was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. One worker was taken to Cooper University Hospital and placed in critical condition, and the two other workers were taken to Jefferson Hospital in Stratford with minor injuries, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said.

"It was a very tragic situation," John Huston, the acting police chief of Magnolia, said.

In a statement, New Jersey American Water directed all questions to police and wrote in a part: "Our focus is on caring for our employees and their impacted families and friends."

The crash involved three vehicles, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, and the woman kept driving after striking the four workers.

The woman struck a vehicle traveling north in the left lane of the White Horse Pike, and another vehicle heading southbound in the left lane of the White Horse Pike, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

The woman who struck the workers and two other cars remained on the scene, police said. She and the other two drivers were taken to Jefferson Hospital with minor injuries. It's unclear if the woman is facing any charges at this time.

"I feel for the family. The family is absolutely devastated," Huston said. "I can only imagine."

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the fatal crash.
