Lt. Governor Cawley To Lead Local United Way

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, who leaves office next week, has landed a new job as head of the local United Way.

Jim Cawley says the more he considered the job as CEO of the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, the more he viewed it as a continuation of his public service.

"I'm hoping that, with the work that I've done certainly for the last ten years -- six as a county commissioner in Bucks County and then the last four years as lieutenant governor is going to translate into an ability to open doors," said Cawley.

And convince donors to open checkbooks.  Cawley says he's eager to focus on the United Way's work to promote literacy, job training and encouraging healthy lifestyles.  He begins February 9.
