Local High School 'Geek' Inspires Us All
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Ian Taylor is a geek.
A junior at Lower Cape May Regional High School, Taylor has been playing the online game World of Tanks -- a multiplayer online game featuring early to mid-20th century era fighting vehicles -- for years. So much so, Taylor has entered the realm of "pro gamer" status.
Taylor and his team eClipse battled their way for three months, eventually earning themselves a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in the World of Tanks finals this past weekend.
Taylor, 17, and his friends on eClipse won their gaming tournament over the weekend. The prize? Just $75,000 and a trip to Poland in April to compete in the Grand Finals.
Taylor's mother Debra tells CBSPhilly.com that her son "plans to travel the world and make a living competing in these online games, and eventually get involved in the building and engineering of these games."
Maybe more high school students should aspire to be "geeks," like Taylor and team eClipse.
