Lansdale, Kennett Square, Bordentown Named 'Classic Towns' In Region
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Members of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission took a trolley ride this morning to some newly designated "classic towns" in the region.
In effort to revitalize some of the area's quaint neighborhoods, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission has designated three more communities as what they call "classic towns."
DVRPC executive director Barry Seymour says that brings the total number of classic towns in our region to 21.
"We're welcoming Bordentown, Kennett Square, and Lansdale to the program," he said.
What does it take to be a classic town?
"They tend to be small towns (with) traditional main streets," Seymour says.
And he says the common goal of those designated communities is to revitalize their economies through a common marketing plan addressing each town's challenges.
"They're all older places that sometimes the market has passed by, and so we're trying to shine some light on them."
The tour wrapped up in Manayunk, one of the organization's previously designated "classic towns."
