Heat Adds To SEPTA Commute Slow Downs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's starting to sound like a broken record.

SEPTA reps say Thursday's commute could be the worst one yet.

Yesterday was day two of the transit agency's limited regional rail service. Trains have been forced to bypass crowded platforms, after a third of SEPTA's train cars were pulled for emergency repairs.

SEPTA says it is still trying to figure out the best way to maximize service.

"Right now we're trying to study patterns of what people are doing, because a lot of people who are taking one form of transportation coming-- might not take the same transportation going. Our big thing is how to get those trains back in service," says Carla Showell Lee, a SEPTA spokeswoman.

Another problem, the heat is causing speed restrictions on the tracks. That's slowing down the trains.

SEPTA officials warn the disruptions could last for another one or two months.
