Groundbreaking Next Week On Monument In Plymouth Township

By Brad Segall

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - Plymouth Township will break ground next Wednesday at the park on Germantown Pike and Walton Road for a new monument dedicated to the men and women who served our country and the first responders who serve the community.

A local veteran, George Gunning Jr., came up with the idea about a year ago and that's when the planning started. He wanted a way to pay tribute to those who served in the military and the first responders who put their lives on the line every day in Plymouth.

Susan Vacchiano with the Greater Plymouth Community Center says the project supports those who have given their service and devotion.

"There's going to be eight granite pillars representing the five branches of the military and then the Plymouth Township police, ambulance and two fire companies," Vacchiano said. "And then there's also a separate section that will be dedicated to our fallen officer Brad Fox."

There are also two sections for individual tributes on plaques, bricks and pavers. Vacchiano says they hope to dedicate the monument in early November, and she hopes will serve as a meeting place for people to reflect.
