Governor Corbett Faces Stiff Competition From 3 Potential Challengers
By Tony Romeo
HARRISBURG (CBS) -- A new Quinnipiac Poll shows three potential Democratic challengers trouncing incumbent Republican Tom Corbett in the race for Pennsylvania governor.
Tim Malloy is the assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
He says his organization took the three Democrats who scored highest in previous polls and matched them up one on one against the incumbent Republican.
"Fortunately for Governor Corbett, the election is not today. He has 18 months to turn things around. But these are considerably good margins for these people at this point," said Malloy.
The poll finds two prospective candidates comfortably ahead of Corbett.
Former Congressman Joe Sestak leads by 14 points, 48 to 34 percent, and state treasurer Rob McCord leads by 9-points.
Declared candidate, US Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz leads Corbett by 13-points.
The Democratic primary race is much less clear.
59-percent say they're undecided, with Sestak and Schwartz each getting 15-percent.
