Gosnell To Plead Guilty To Distributing Prescription Pills Out Of Clinic

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Convicted abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell is planning to plead guilty next week to federal charges he was distributing hundreds of thousands of prescription pills and other narcotics to patients out of his West Philadelphia women's clinic.
Gosnell's attorney Jack McMahon filed papers with the Federal Court in Philadelphia on Tuesday, paving the way for the guilty plea to charges Gosnell distributed oxycodone, Alprazolam and a cough syrup with codeine.
Gosnell, who is now serving three life sentences for his recent first-degree murder convictions in the deaths of infants during late-term abortion procedures, was indicted in 2011 by a federal grand jury for running the pill mill out of his West Philadelphia clinic.
The 72-year-old Gosnell's guilty plea will be heard on June 6 by U.S. District Judge Cynthia Rufe.
He had pleaded not guilty to the narcotics charges in 2012 and was facing a federal trial following the abortion trial.
The indictment stated Gosnell distributed the prescription narcotics between June 2008 and February 2010. It is alleged Gosnell made more than $200,000 as a result of the pill mill operation.
