Flowers and Plants On Sale at Morris Arboretum's Annual Fundraiser
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Morris Arboretum is holding its annual plant sale, through Saturday, just in time for the summer gardening season.
"This is probably about the 40th year that we've been doing the plant sale," says Paul Meyer, executive director of the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania. "We have trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, roses, clematis -- you name it."
He says it's not a coincidence that the plant sale takes place just before Mother's Day:
"Here in the Delaware Valley, we think of Mother's Day as our first frost-free weekend. So after that, in theory, we can be relatively assured of having no frost until autumn," he explains.
With so much selection here, how do you choose?
"Every plant has its own adaptability," Meyer (right) notes. "Some plants need sun, some do well in the shade, some need wet soil, others do okay in dry soil. So analyze the site where you're going to plant these plants, and then match the plants to the site."
