First Lady Michelle Obama Speaks To Philadelphia Supporters About Campaign Ahead

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The First Lady paid a visit to Philadelphia grassroots supporters and volunteers today, and her speech focused on the long road ahead to November.

"Will we continue the change we've begun and the progress we've made? Or will we allow everything we've fought for to just slip away?"

Mrs. Obama reminded supporters that the President needs their hard work more than ever if he is to be re-elected in November. The First Lady told the crowd to go spread the word about all of the President Obama's accomplishments, including killing Osama Bin Laden, passing both the Affordable Care Act and the Equal Pay Act and eliminating Don't Ask, Don't Tell. And as for the economy, she reminded supporters about the country's progress over the past several years.

"Back when Barack first took office, our economy was losing an average of 750,000 jobs a month. Let them know we are actually gaining private sector jobs--four million jobs, four million jobs in just two years!" Mrs. Obama said.

The National Constitution Center reports that more than 1,100 people attended the event.
