Father Makes Spectacular Mother's Day Catch: 'It Was Unreal'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The best catch of Sunday's Mother Day matinee between the Phillies and Mets came from someone who didn't even have a glove. Just a fan, a father actually, of all people.
Mike Capko with his bay son Kolton literally strapped to chest and his wife Alyssa next to him, made a one-handed, bare-handed snag from his seat.
"There's no way I wasn't catching that ball," Capko told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Monday, of his now viral catch.
Capko, 30 from Conshohocken, who says he goes to the gym often and plays hockey admitted he's not much of a baseball player.
"By no means, I'll be honest, I'm a pretty bad baseball player.

"It was unreal," Capko said of the catch. "I was just sitting there watching the game with the 29,000 other people. You don't really have a reaction, you just kind of have instinct and my instinct was kind of shift to my right a little bit, stand-up, and catch the ball."
Alyssa had no words for the catch.
"She was just like, 'Wow.' Like, she was speechless. She just couldn't believe what happened," said Capko of his wife's reaction. "It happened so fast, it was just a great moment to have down at the ballpark."
To compound the amazing Mother's Day for the Capko family, Phillies Hall Of Fame third baseman and color commentator Mike Schmidt autographed the baseball.
"I couldn't believe it," Capko said. "That was just unbelievable, we have a great souvenir now and my son's got a great ball."
