Temps reach 100 in Philadelphia region as dangerous heat wave continues today. Here's the weather forecast.

A dangerous heat wave is underway in the Philadelphia region, and temperatures soared to a steamy 97 degrees Wednesday. Today, it got even hotter, and with several cities in the Philly area reporting temperatures at or above 100 degrees.

Philadelphia International Airport reported 100 degrees at 12:54 p.m. and climbed to 103 degrees, tying a record high set in 1901.

Wilmington, Delaware, surpassed 100 with a 101-degree reading at 12:51 p.m. The city broke its previous record high for today of 98 degrees around 11 a.m. The last 100-degree high in Wilmington was June 24 of last year, with a high of 101. Before 2025, Wilmington hadn't reached 100 degrees since 2012, when it hit 101 on July 7 and July 18.

The Atlantic City Airport is also reporting 101 degrees.

Both Atlantic City and Wilmington have broken record highs for today.

Today is Day 4 of a likely seven-day run. The hottest temperatures arrive today and Friday, with temps in the 103 to 105 range. The feels-like temperatures will be 110 to 115 degrees in the Delaware Valley.

By 10 a.m., the region hit 90 degrees with a heat index of 103.

Friday's record of 104 is also the hottest July temperature recorded in Philadelphia, and there's a chance we break that one as well.

In addition to the dangerous heat, there is a chance for a few pop-up storms, mainly Friday and Saturday evenings. Some could produce gusty winds and hail, along with lightning and heavy rain. Friday's storms look to be very widely scattered, but Saturday, we may see a few more storms in the evening.

Saturday is a day that will likely have many people outside, especially during the peak heat, because it falls on the Fourth of July with the final 2026 Men's World Cup match at Philadelphia Stadium.

It's important to stay hydrated and be mindful of things like headaches, fatigue and dizziness. Those symptoms are all signs that you are entering into heat-related illnesses, and you'll need to cool down immediately.

Heat is the No. 1 weather-related killer, so please take it seriously.

Plan and prepare for the heat

Have somewhere cool to rest, special care for pets, check on neighbors and family, limit time outdoors, check fluid in cars and keep hydrated.

Swimming pools, movie theaters and shopping malls are places to stay cool.

Cars become death traps in the heat. No people or pets should ever be left in the car. The heat can reach 125 degrees in minutes and cause death. Check your back seat before leaving a car.

Buildings with no air conditioning will heat up and retain the heat. That cumulative effect of the heat after three to five days could be deadly for some.

• The hottest day on record for Philly is 106 on Aug. 7, 1918.
