Dutch Study of Omega 3 Fatty Acids May Be Misleading

Omega 3 fatty acids have long been talked about as a way to fight heart disease that can be quite effective. But, according to a new study from Dutch researchers, people who are heart attack survivors, who are already in good care, don't necessarily benefit from eating more heart-healthy Omega 3 fats.

KYW's medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough reports this study is somewhat misleading. That's because people who are getting good care are already getting certain medications that help offset heart disease. But for people in the general public, people who have not had a history of heart disease but who are trying to prevent problems, omega 3 fatty acids clearly have an important role.
