Despite Snowy Forecast, Philadelphia Area Residents Apparently Shopping In Stride

BALA CYNWYD, Pa. (CBS) -- With the threat of a rare October snow, KYW's Tim Jimenez went to a Montgomery County supermarket to see if shoppers were stocking up on food staples.

It's a Delaware Valley tradition to rush out and buy the "french toast" ingredients of bread, milk, and eggs whenever a blizzard is expected.

But with snow forecast much earlier in the season than usual, were shoppers at the Acme on City Line Avenue shopping differently?

"Not looking forward to it," one woman said of the expected snow, "but not shopping for it."

Many shoppers said they were just making their routine visits to the store.

"Just getting enough for the family," one man told KYW Newsradio.

"Just stocking up because this is what I need," said a woman.  "I love my ginger ales, I love my Snapples.  So no, I'm not stocking up for the snow."

"People go crazy in the Philadelphia area," another woman noted. "Then of course it'll melt very quickly."

And still another shopper is ready for winter to end even before it technically begins.  "I can't wait for spring!" she said.
