Delaware State Police Investigate Two Deadly Crashes
WILMINGTON (CBS/AP) -- Delaware State Police are investigating a pair of deadly car wrecks that happened just hours apart.
Police say the first wreck occurred just after 9 p.m. Saturday and claimed the life of a pedestrian. Authorities say a man was trying to cross the southbound lanes of Interstate-95 just north of Delaware Avenue in Wilmington when he was struck by a Chevy Equinox. Police say the man was then struck by three more vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim was not immediately released.
Roughly five hours later, shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the scene of a fatal crash along Route 41 in Hockessin. Police say a Mercury Mountaineer struck a Honda Civic and careened into a concrete island, where the car flipped over. The driver of the Mountaineer was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police were also withholding the identity of the second victim, pending notification of family.
Two people inside the other Civic were treated for minor injuires at Christiana Hospital Trauma Center and later released.
