Deadly Fire Brings Philadelphia's 2010 Total To 33

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The city has added another deadly house fire to the yearly total.

A small one-alarm bedroom fire in the 2000 block of South Frazier Street claimed the life of an unidentified man inside his row home just before midnight.

The blaze, described as very small, was extinguished in less than 10 minutes and confined to a second floor rear bedroom where the victim was found.

Careless smoking has not been ruled out, but an investigation continues.

Officials were told a second person inside the home apparently had delayed a call to 911 when he attempted to extinguish the fire himself. He finally called authorities requesting the fire department.

Fire officials advise residents to call 911 first and then immediately evacuate to a safe location.

The death brings the 2010 fire death total in the city to 33 which is one lowest death tolls since 1952.
