Corporation Helps Underwrite Growth For a Local Social Service Agency's Programs in Montco

By Brad Segall

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A sizeable corporate donation from AT&T will help a Norristown social services agency expand a job training program for some high school students.

Charles Moore, a senior in the Norristown Area School District, wants to be an entrepreneur.  And, he says, the after-school program he participates in is giving him a clear direction to achieving that goal.

The program is offered by the Philadelphia-based nonprofit Congreso, and the $30,000 donation from AT&T will help them add nearly 100 students to the program by next year.

Moore (far right in photo) has been a part of the program for about 18 months.

"Like, they help me fill out résumés," he explains.  "It helped me become job-ready, and it just gets you aware of your future."

He finds the field trips to local businesses and conversations with business owners to be the most beneficial.

AT&T has committed millions of dollars to education programs across the country. Company officials say they see it as an investment that one day make a return when a student becomes an employee.
