Corbett Backtracks On Comments About Restricting Gun Sales On State Property

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Governor Tom Corbett is backtracking from comments made during a radio interview suggesting that he might consider banning the sale of guns on state property.

The comment came during an appearance on Harrisburg public station WITF's "Radio Smart Talk" program. Governor Corbett was asked about why the state allows gun sales at its massive Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, and whether that policy should be changed.

In the moment, the governor seemed open to it, saying, "The state is open, I think, to all businesses using the Farm Show, but I've never given that one any thought. And it's a good thing to raise and I will give a thought to it."

But after giving a thought to it Corbett apparently decided against it, a short time after those comments his press office gave a statement saying that there would be no reason to ban gun sellers on public property such as the Farm Show Complex, as they are legitimate businesses whose customers are subject to the same background checks required at retail stores.
