Community Organization Brings Holiday Cheer To Children At North Philadelphia Shelter
By Cherri Gregg
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Urban Angel LLC is a 5-thousand member social networking group that uses social media sites, such as Facebook to give back to the community. On Sunday, the organization brought holiday cheer to a North Philadelphia shelter.
More than 80 children lined up to receive toys at Salvation Army Red Shield House on North Broad Street. Nine-year-old Nai'Seir has been living in the shelter with his mother and two siblings for the past three days.
"What toy do you have here?," asked Cherri Gregg.
"A Nerf football," replied Nai'Seir. "When I was like two or three, I saw a football game and I liked it. So now, I think I will start playing football."
Jena Williams said she started the foundation arm of Urban Angel LLC a few months ago. The group uses online social media networking sites to collect money, toys, clothes and other items to help those in need.
"We've done about four or five events for charity in the past few months," said Williams. "I was raised to always give. Our whole mission is to empower communities and enhance lives. So for us, the core of our foundation is to give back to the community."
Nyree, 24, said she was thankful that her son Nai'Seir and daughter, Mik'Hiayah, were able to receive a little cheer this holiday.
"We've been going through a lot," said Nyree. "So the opportunity for them to have some toys is good."
