Police: Teen Suspect Faces Attempted Murder, Rape Charges In Assault Case Of 5-Year-Old Girl

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police say a person is in custody in connection with an alleged assault of a child in North Philadelphia.

At about 7:57 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, police say responding officers came into contact with a five-year-old girl who was badly beaten. Police say the child was taken to the hospital.

Upon further investigation, police say the child's mother informed police that she went to bed Monday night and awoke Tuesday morning and noticed her daughter was missing.

According to police, she searched the house in and out front and could not find her. While looking out the upstairs window, police say she saw her daughter in the backyard unconscious.

Police say the little girl woke up in the middle of the night and reportedly found a man in her home.

"The male took hold of her, carried her outside of the property and there, physically assaulted her. She described stomping to the abdomen, and other physical assault," said Captain John Darby.

Police say the child sustained head trauma, facial cuts, contusions and a fracture to her face.

According to police, a 15-year-old male will face charges of: Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, Rape, Unlawful Restraint, False Imprisonment, Sexual Assault, Aggravated Indecent Assault, Simple Assault, REAP and related offenses.
