Budget Cuts Mean More Unpaid Furlough Days At Philadelphia School District
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett's proposed cuts in education funding (see related story) are prompting more unpaid furlough days at the Philadelphia School District.
The district's executive staff now plans to take 16 furlough days, instead of eight.
Schools superindentent Arlene Ackerman said last month she would take 20 furlough days and forego a $100,000 bonus. The Philadelphia School District is facing a possible deficit of about $465 million.
The governor's budget plan rolls back statewide education spending to 2008 levels, and would give school districts no money for charter school reimbursements.
