Local Product And Broncos K Brandon McManus: 'Tough To Hate Belichick, Brady'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The entire sports world is appropriately fixated on another meeting between two NFL great quarterbacks, New England's Tom Brady and Denver's Peyton Manning. The two will face off for the 17th time in Sunday's AFC Championship game.
Denver Broncos starting kicker Brandon McManus, a Philadelphia native and North Penn product, has no ill-will for Brady or Patriots coach Bill Belichick -- the combo who defeated his hometown Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX.
"There's always people saying, 'Oh they're cheaters and stuff,'" McManus told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show. "But for me, myself, I think it's pretty tough to hate a winner and that's kind of what those two have been up in New England with Bill and [Tom] Brady.

"I went to all four of the [Eagles'] conference championships, I remember them all pretty well," McManus continued. "My dad drove down to Jacksonville for the Super Bowl [in 2005] and went in."
The former Temple Owls kicker admits he has extra pressure on his shoulders -- or feet actually -- playing alongside Manning, a 39-year-old future Hall Of Fame quarterback.
"There's one thing that -- an extra pressure that I kind of put on myself -- is that I'm teammates with number 18, Peyton Manning," McManus said. "I don't know how many times he has a chance to do this again. So, I kind of put it a little bit on myself to try not to let him down in any aspect just because he doesn't have that many left.
"It's pretty crazy," McManus, 24, continued. "Growing up, you're playing in backyard football trying to pretend to be like him. Next thing, you have a locker next to him.
So what's Manning like?
"He's an extremely funny person," said McManus. "He has jokes that are extremely --- as you see on Saturday Night Live -- he's got that sense of humor like no other. In team meetings, instead of being super serious -- even the nights before big games -- he's telling jokes anyway just to loosen people up. He's awesome to be around, he's a great leader, he prepares like no other player in our locker room -- just the amount of time he puts in and effort he puts into everything."
After bouncing around from the Colts to the Giants, it looks like McManus has found a home in Denver. McManus is 30-35 and 35-36 on extra points this season. In last weekends AFC Divisional game, McManus made all five of his attempts, including three from 40-yards or more and one in the 50-yard range.
McManus hopes to go from emulating Manning in his Philadelphia area backyard, to joining him in Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco.
