Biden, Pelosi, Democratic Leaders Gather In Philly Week Before Election

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Vice President Joe Biden and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi were the guest speakers at the Democratic City Committee's Jefferson-Jackson Autumn Event Monday night in South Philadelphia.

They were joined by other democratic leaders, including Congressman Bob Brady, who didn't shy away from his feelings about Donald Trump: "We're being called out by a bully, a spoiled brat and a punk and we can't let that happen."

Brady would then introduce Biden to loud cheers from the crowd . He had some harsh words for Trump as well, before encouraging the group of hundreds in attendance to get out and vote next week:

"Eight days left, man. We can't take our eyes off the ball. these guys are throwing everything but the kitchen sink at us and they're throwing more right now."

He added there's more at stake in this election than ever before:

"It's not just our physical security, our national security, I won't even go into all that. But the fact of the matter is we've come a long, long way, it's about dignity, it's about respect."

Pelosi talked about Pennsylvania's crucial role in determining the next president: "Pennsylvania is the Keystone State, for America and for this election. Philadelphia is central to success in Pennsylvania."

Which Biden agreed with: "We win Pennsylvania, Hillary wins the election, we lose it, Hillary loses the election."

But he went on to say this election is about more than Hillary: "We need a democratic senate. Every single thing from your right to bargain to your lifestyle is going to depend on what that Supreme Court looks like."

All throughout his speech Biden stressed how big this election is, Mayor Kenney calling it earlier in the night the "most important in our lifetime."
