Authorities Continue To Probe "Death Race 2012" On Atlantic City Expressway
TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) - In a YouTube video from 2010, drivers of the luxury vehicles weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed on the Garden State Parkway don't seem too worried about the New Jersey State Troopers nearby. In fact, it appears they are being escorted by them.
This incident came to light after witnesses complained about a similar incident this March on the parkway and the Atlantic City Expressway and an internal investigation began.
On Sunday, state police confirmed Colonel Rick Fuentes ordered the transfer of a total of 10 commanders in a realignment aimed at the operations branch.
In an interview after a state senate budget committee hearing last week, Fuentes said hundreds of caravans are done all year long for public safety after being requested and approved.
The moves according to state police were made in light of the recent ongoing internal investigations into the unauthorized caravans. Additionally, two troopers remain suspended without pay.
The 2010 incident appears to be very similar to the March 2012 incident now dubbed Death Race 2012. An attorney for one of the suspended troopers says the recent caravan to Atlantic City was set up with Former New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs.
State police have not been specific about the troops impacted and have not released the names of the recent transfers. The investigation continues.
