Atlantic City Man Sentenced For Deadly Botched Robbery

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) — An Atlantic City man involved in a botched robbery that left his young accomplice and their intended victim dead is now headed to state prison.

Nineteen-year-old Abubka Brown received a 22-year sentence Friday for the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Taron Williams during the robbery at Williams' Pleasantville home. Brown had pleaded guilty in January to aggravated manslaughter.

Authorities say the then-17-year-old Brown and 13-year-old Todd Mitchell were armed when they went to Williams' home in December 2012. The two youths planned commit a home invasion robbery, but instead a shootout ensued.

Williams shot Mitchell multiple times, while Brown shot Williams several times. Both were taken to the hospital, but died there a short time later.

Brown was arrested four months later, and the case eventually was moved to adult court.
