As Temps Drop, City Holds Event On Helping Homeless Year Around
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Between the bitter cold temps and approaching holidays, many people are thinking about the homeless right now in Philadelphia. For those wishing to help, an event Thursday evening at the Pennsylvania Convention Center offered some guidance.
"some of them may just need people to donate time, donate clothing, or write a check to a tax deductible organization," said Center City District President Paul Levy.
On Thursday he was joined by Mayor Kenney, who appreciates the love people in the city are showing.
"These are human beings, these are our brothers and sisters on the street," Kenney said. "They're there for various reasons -- substance abuse, mental illness, just terrible things that have happened in their life that put them outside. No one wants to be homeless, no one asks for that, everyone wants help."
He adds while it's nice to give back this time of year, this should be a 365 day effort.
