Army-Navy Game Returns To Philadelphia

By Kristen Johanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Thousands of Navy midshipmen, Army cadets, veterans and families will pack Lincoln Financial field for this weekend's big Army-Navy Game.

"Many people say it is America's game."

Tom Lynch played football for the Naval Academy back in the 1960s and says this competition is fierce and friendly.

"They are playing for the love of the game, the spirit of the game, the love of their school, and their teammates."

The first Army-Navy game was played in 1890, and 86 of those games have been played in Philadelphia.

"When you think Army Navy, you want to think Philadelphia, because we want to be the home. And it's coming up for renewal again, so we need everybody's support out there, to continue the game in Philly."

He says, though it's a battle of the bravest, it's also a moment to pause and reflect on the sacrifice all soldiers make for the country they love.

"When you are in the service, you are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice if that's what's required."

Kickoff is at 3 p.m. Saturday, and you can watch it on CBS 3.
