Area Plowing Contractors Making Money While Losing Sleep
FT. WASHINGTON, Pa. (CBS) - With storm after storm after storm, local folks who plow parking lots and driveways for a living have been busy. One man says the job has been so demanding, he's hardly had time to sleep.
Matt Sylvestra is president of the Vestera Group, a Montgomery County landscaping operation that also does plowing.
"Days have been long, long nights. You are out one day and the next day you are going out there for something else," Sylvestra told KYW Newsradio on Monday, one day ahead of the next expected snowfall.
"We're out there an average of sometimes 16 to 24 hours -- and that has been every storm this year, all night, all morning. And then you get a few hours of rest and you are out there again," he said.
Does this translate into big dollars for those who plow?
"Yes, some jobs benefit," he said. Then, others.... You have set contracts. And then other jobs you get paid per storm. So it works out evenly both ways. But I think at this point the guys all need to go to South Florida come late March, early April," he said with a laugh.
