American Bandstand Birthplace Now Home To Urban Music Project

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The British initiative that works to turn urban kids into musical artists has arrived in Philadelphia in a collaboration with a local organization.

Britain Urban Collective had been looking for a collaboration in Philadelphia to launch its program of guiding urban youth through the music business. It has found its connection. The Enterprise Center at 46th and Market, the birthplace of American Bandstand.

Della Clark is president of the center:

"We've always wanted to get connected to the history of this building and I think Urban Collective project does that for us."

Next spring, the new American Urban Collective project will begin recruiting about 500 teens in Philadelphia who want to learn about the music business. Samatha Beinhacker is co-founder:

"From performing arts, vocals, songwriting, drama to audio production."
