All Eyes On These Lenses
An emerging type of contact lens is worn only at night, and promises to change your vision so you don't need contacts or glasses all day.
Decades ago, when I wore hard contact lenses, I noticed that when I took them out at night, my vision was different than before I put them in. Corneal reshaping by contact lens is exactly the technique being boosted by optometrist Nicholas Despotidis of Hamilton Township, New Jersey, although technically it's called orthokeratology. Wear the oxygen-permeable retainer lenses all night, he said, see better all day:
"You do wear this lens indefinitely to maintain that clear vision during the day. If you discontinue it, your vision will slowly, over the next few weeks, return to base line or to its normal vision, and then you can wear glasses, contacts or have laser correction."
Dr. Despoditis said these treatments are considered cosmetic and so usually not covered by insurance. To learn more click here.
