A Scrambled Lineup Can't Help the Phils

The Phils get another solid outing by a starting pitcher, but the bats were unable to get out of the slump, and the Pirates blanked the Phils 2-0. Jamie Moyer(L, 9-7) went 6 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits, 8 strikeouts. Charlie Manuel scrambled Friday night's lineup, most notibly sitting Shane Victorino, but the top 6 were a combined 2 for 22.

For the 2nd straight night the Pirates sent a winless starting pitcher to the mound. Ross Ohlendorf(W, 1-6) went 7 shutout innings, allowing 5 hits, striking out 8. The games 2 runs were knocked in on a bases loaded chop towards 3rd, driving 1 man home. Moyer then over-threw Ryan Howard, allowing the 2nd run to score. Phils were 0/5 with runners in scoring position. Wilson Valdez led the team with 2 hits.  Jimmy Rollins 0 for 3, no walks. Jayson Werth 0-4, 3 strikeouts. Dobbs and Franciso both 0 for 4.

Phils can only hope for the split in the 4 game set, as they watch themselves fall in the NL East. The Braves topped the Marlins 4-3, so the Phils now trail Atlanta by 5 games. They've now lost 3 in a row. Kyle Kendrick takes the mound in game 3 Saturday night at 7:05.
