Uprising In Turkey Hits Home For Philadelphia Student

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Can Boluk is a University of the Arts student. He's been living in Philadelphia for three years, but was born and raised in Istanbul.

"The house where my parents live is actually 15 minutes away from the airport," he tells KYW Newsradio.

With everything happening there now, he's concerned for his family...

"I just called my parents, they're safe right now."

...and his country...

"I'm worried about the civil war because it's a really big deal to have a military coup."

In fact, he says he fears the worst when it comes to his country:

"This is not just going to bring the president down, this is going to bring the Republic of Turkey down in the world's eyes."

While he knew the situation wasn't great, he never thought it would escalate to this:

"This is so chaotic, so old school, it doesn't make sense to me in the 21st century."
