3-6" Snowfall For Delaware Valley
By: Justin Drabick
Last night's snowstorm ended before daybreak but just enough snow fell to cause travel issues. The hardest hit areas were from around Philadelphia on south into southern NJ, Delaware, and northeastern MD. Arctic air filled into the region as the snow arrived allowing for a light powdery snow to fall. This type of snow piles up faster but is easy to clean up. The sun angle in late February is getting higher so it was able to melt a lot of the snow today, even though temperatures made it a few degrees above freezing. With the arctic air mass in place and a fresh snowpack, temperatures will plummet into the teens and even single digits in some spots tonight for lows. Areas of standing water will freeze tonight so some black ice is expected overnight.
Temperatures moderate back into the 40s for Wednesday with more sunshine. Another storm will track towards the Ohio Valley by the end of the week. This northwest track will bring some milder air along with rain developing late Thursday night. Expect periods of rain through the day on Friday and will wash most of the leftover snow away.
