1 Killed, Engaged Couple Critical After Olney Shooting

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – One man was killed and two others, an engaged couple, were critically injured in a shooting in North Philadelphia early Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened shortly after midnight at N. 2nd and Widener Streets in the city's Olney section.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found three people laying in the street suffering from gunshot wounds.

A 19-year-old male was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A 31-year-old and 33-year-old male and female -- who were engaged to be married – suffered gunshot wounds to their torsos. They were also taken to Einstein where they are listed in critical condition.

Investigators believe the shooting may have been an act of retaliation.

"This started out as a neighborhood fight and dispute, which escalated into a shooting, which turned into a homicide," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Small said police are searching for three males who fled the scene in a white Pontiac Grand Prix.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia police.
