Zubov Arrested For Assaulting Wife

Dallas Stars defenseman Sergei Zubov was arrested early Sunday on charges of assaulting his wife.

Zubov, 27, was charged with aggravated assault and family violence, a second-degree felony.

It was not known if Zubov's wife, Irina, was injured.

Coppell police said they went to Zubov's house about 3 a.m. after someone at the home dialed 911 and hung up.

Police said officers determined that Zubov had exhibited a deadly weapon, which police refused to identify and they took him into custody. The player was released sometime Sunday, a department dispatcher said.

The hockey team issued a three-sentence statement from general manager Bob Gainey.

"The Dallas Stars and the National Hockey League are cooperating fully with the authorities and are offering our assistance and support to both Sergei and Irina," Gainey's statement read.

The club said it would have no further comment.
