(CBS) Actress Zoe Saldana has played an action hero on screen and now she has in real life. The "Avatar" star was driving in Southern California when she noticed a car accident. Instead of driving past, she reportedly rushed to help an elderly woman out of her car and dialed 911.

The 33-year-old actress was driving in Culver City, Calif. when she saw the accident. She and another passerby helped the woman, who had a bloody wound on her face, out of her car and on to the curb, reports TMZ.

While on the curb, Saldana reportedly called 911 and waited with the woman for the police and paramedics to arrive on the scene.

An onlooker told People: "While waiting for help to arrive, Zoe returned to the woman's car and picked up the woman's handbag and sweater. Zoe was very caring and sweet to the woman."
