Will "X-Men: First Class" unseat "Pirates"?

(CBS) "The Hangover Part II" blew the competition - including "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" - into smithereens last weekend at the box office, but that's just in the United States. In the rest of the world, the Johnny Depp-starring retread is still tops.

Worldwide, the fourth "Pirates" movie has earned about $640 million as of Wednesday, according to Box Office Mojo. That's more than "Thor" and "Fast Five," two movies that have been out longer. That haul (and it's likely to keep increasing) will probably be more than enough to out-earn "The Hangover Part II."

And then there's "X-Men: First Class."

We reported Wednesday that the buzz in advance of the Marvel prequel to Bryan Singer's "X-Men" is big - and it's just getting bigger. The tweets are coming faster and the preview stories are coming quicker. The reviews are still holding up, too. At Rotten Tomatoes, "X-Men: First Class" has an average of 91 percent. Those are good numbers for the fifth movie in a comic-book series.

That's to be expected to some degree but the rate at which the stories and tweets are moving is surprising for a decade-old franchise with lackluster third and fourth entries in its series (kind of sounds like the Batman franchise before it was revived by Christopher Nolan).

The "Pirates" movies have traditionally outperformed the "X-Men" movies at the international box office. Will that continue with the "First Class"? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
