(CBS) Variety and The Hollywood Reporter have given "X-Men: First Class" glowing reviews. Wired ran a preview story about the young mutants featured in the movie and Twitter is lighting up with X-Men references.

Throw in the good-looking and curiosity-stoking clips that have come out in the past week and it looks like anticipation for this prequel to "X-Men" is big - and the box office could be bigger.

Even the lukewarm reviews, such as David Jenkins' in Time Out London, have something positive in them. He writes, "[W]hile the context of [director] Matthew Vaughn's slick 'X-Men' origin story feels like it's been filched from the notepad of a [history] student, there's no shortage of breathtaking spectacle elsewhere."

After a so-so third film in the series, the Brett Ratner-directed "X-Men: The Last Stand," and the downright weak "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," the new film has a story from "The Usual Suspects" and "X-Men" and "X2" director Bryan Singer and is helmed by "Kick-Ass" and "Layer Cake" director Vaughn, who has a deft touch for action.
