Will Russell Crowe play Henry Cavill's dad in "Man of Steel"?
(CBS) Australian actor Russell Crowe is reportedly in negotiations to play Henry Cavil's father in the new "Superman" reboot, "Man Of Steel," set to hit theaters in 2012.
While the studio has yet to confirm the casting, Variety is reporting that Crowe will tackle the role of Jor-El, the biological father of Superman, played by newcomer Henry Cavill in the upcoming relaunch of the Warner Brothers film franchise. The report indicates that an A-list actress is also being sought to play Lara, Superman's biological mother.
Crowe is following some big names in the role. Marlon Brando played him 1978's "Superman," and veteran actor Julian Sands played him in the "Smallville" television series.
In addition to Cavill, the cast of the Zack Snyder' film includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Michael Shannon as Zod.
"The Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan is one of several producers on the film, and one of the chief shepherds for the character's upcoming reboot.
