What to expect at the 2015 MTV VMAs

Miley Cyrus is hosting, Nicki Minaj is opening and Kanye West will be accepting. Plus, Taylor Swift will be in attendance.

And you know what that means. This year's MTV Video Music Awards will undoubtedly feature some buzzy, likely a little raunchy (and definitely tune-in-worthy) moments.

Swift leads the pack of 2015 nominees with nine Moonmen, including Video of the Year for "Bad Blood," featuring Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham and more of the pop star's famous pals. Ed Sheeran is in the running for six nominations, while Beyonce and Mark Ronson are each up for five nods.

MTV VMAs 2015

Who should win Video of the Year at the 2015 VMAs?

In addition to Swift, some of the other leading VMAs contenders are up for the night's biggest honor: Video of the Year. Nominees are Beyoncé for "7/11," Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud," Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar for "Bad Blood," Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars with "Uptown Funk" and Kendrick Lamar's "Alright."

West will collect the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for his "career-spanning groundbreaking videos, legendary VMA performances and continued impact on music, art, fashion and culture," per MTV. Previous recipients have included David Bowie, the Beatles, Michael Jackson and Madonna.

The rapper isn't expected to perform, but not to worry -- many of today's top music stars will hit the stage. Minaj will open the show, and Justin Bieber will debut his new single, "What Do You Mean." Other performers will include Pharrell Williams, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Demi Lovato, Tori Kelly, The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky and Twenty One Pilots.

During the VMAs pre-show Nick Jonas will sing his new single "Levels," and Walk the Moon will kick things off with its VMA-nominated smash, "Shut Up and Dance."

Walk the Moon is also in the running for his best rock video. Singer Nicholas Petricca told CBS News this week that he thinks their chances are "alright," adding, "We're up against amazing competition -- Florence + the Machine, Arctic Monkeys, Hozier, Fall Out Boy -- some really established artists ... Arctic Monkeys are one of my favorite bands. I don't know -- the song has been killing it and the song is all over the world now. Our fans are so dedicated."

Presenters will include Britney Spears, Rebel Wilson, Ice Cube, John Legend, Kylie Jenner, O'Shea Jackson, Jr., Rita Ora, Ne-Yo, Miguel, Emily Ratajkowski, Jussie Smollet and Serayah. And a slew of other stars will be in attendance, including Vance Joy, Colbie Caillat, Fifth Harmony, Big Sean, FKA Twigs, Fall Out Boy, Wale, OMI and Ronson.

The evening will also feature the world premiere of Swift's new "Wildest Dreams" video.

The MTV Video Music Awards will get underway Sunday at 8 p.m. ET with the pre-show, followed by the awards gala at 9 p.m. ET.
